Mike, born in 1979, Netherlands.
Paddling since 2011, first competition ever was the Sup 11 city tour. Solo tour. After this event I was hooked on the sport. Ever since I competed de sup 11 city in the competition class (all top 20). In 2014 I did the sup 11 city non stop. 220km in 30hr 36min. Finished 5th.
Sind 2012 competitor in the Dutch championships long distance. Finished 8th in 2012 and 6th in 2013 overall over the season. In 2014 missed the Dutch completion long distance but ended strong on the non stop. All my competitions are for charity. Since my mom is diagnose with cancer I raise money for research by races, giving training, doing clinics etc. As long as I can I will help to finding a cure and needed money to beat this destroying disease.
I’m working as a full time professional sport instructor since I was 16 (variety of sports). This passion for sport still drives me to get the best out of me but also the energy to help others. After is heavy snowboard accident I had to stop with all of my sports and had to recover for about 5 years. My shoulder was totally beat up. It seems to be the end of my sports career. With lots of dedication I came back. I will never be as strong as before but mentally I beat everyone. I will not finished first, but no way to finished last.
All this experience I take with me in training others. Few of my pupils are; Janneke Smits, Carla Schellart, Albert Grossguth and Hub Dekkers. The results over the last year are spectacular. Very proud of them all.
Together with Makani fins I will help testing and developing new Sup race fins for different disciplines. We are now working on my signature line race fins. These fins specially made for racing in a variety of conditions but with speed and control in mind. This will be the top of the line in the Sup racefin market.
